While recalling the tragic events of the death of former teammate Phillip Hughes, the 35-year-old held back tears as he admitted he gave himself false hope he may survive.
‘I guess I probably tried to tell myself that there’s a chance he’d be okay,’ he revealed, before adding: ‘But I think I knew there wasn’t.’

Also in the interview, Michael refuses to apologise for his ‘younger self’, including the incident involving ex-girlfriend Lara Bingle.
When asked by reporter Allison Langdon if he felt the ‘need to defend or apologise,’ he answered: ‘I have apologised enough.
‘I haven’t done anything wrong. I just did it my way,’ the father-of-one continued.
