Michael Owen says Mauricio Pochettino could do more with the Manchester United team than he could with the Paris Saint-Germain team.

Owen believes Pochettino’s ‘hands are tied’ when it comes to selecting his squad as he is required to play Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

The BT Sport pundit has also questioned Manchester United’s decision to keep hold of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and let Pochettino join the Ligue 1 side earlier this year.

Speaking after PSG’s defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday night, Owen said: His (Pochettino’s) hands are tied.

‘He can’t drop Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi. Of course they are good enough but playing like that they won’t win the Champions League.’

Owen’s comments came after Ferdinand criticised the front three for avoiding their defensive duties while on the pitch against Manchester City.

When watching a clip of the front three walking along the half-way line while PSG defended inside their own box, Ferdinand said: You can’t deny the talent these three have, but to win big trophies you can’t have this situation.’

Owen also said he thought the former Tottenham manager could do more with the Manchester United team than he can the PSG team.

Speaking on BT Sport, he said: ‘I think Poch can probably do more with the Manchester United team than he can the PSG team.

‘The PSG team pick themselves but can you mould them into a winning team? I’m not sure. I think you can with Manchester United.’

However, Owen couldn’t help but question Manchester United’s decision to keep hold of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and let Pochettino join the Ligue 1 side.

He said: ‘Poch is a fascinating one. Manchester United could have had him for nothing a few months ago and now they are going to have to pay a absolute fortune to get him out of PSG and nothing has changed at Manchester United.

‘I mean just out of principle I don’t know if I could do it.’
