Michael Sheen is seen for the first time on the set of BBC drama Best Interests

Michael Sheen cut a smart figure as he was seen on the London set of BBC’s Best Interests for the first time with co-star Sharon Horgan.

The Welsh actor, 53, looked dapper in a grey suit, which he paired with a blue shirt and burgundy tie as he shot outdoor scenes for the upcoming four-part drama on Wednesday.

He looked strikingly different from his grey-locked appearance on BBC’s Staged as he sported short, curly brown tresses and freshly-trimmed facial hair.

Other snaps showed the Good Omens star looking more casual in brown trousers with a navy T-shirt, which he wore underneath a blue shirt and dark rain jacket.

He was seen chatting as he walked out of a residential home with his Sharon, who plays his on-screen wife, as they shot scenes for the four-part series.

The Irish actress, 51, looked effortlessly chic in a bright orange roll-neck jumper, which she teamed with blue straight leg jeans.

She kept comfortable in a pair of black trainers while she wrapped up warm in a black hooded jacket.

Sharon styled her windswept blonde tresses in a straight fashion as she shot scenes, which saw her knock on a front door and walk with Michael.

The series, which is set to air on BBC One next year and was written by His Dark Materials’ Jack Thorne, sees Michael and Sharon playing married couple Nicci and Andrew.

They have two daughters – Katie, played by Conversation With Friends’ Alison Oliver, and Marnie, played by Niamh Moriarty, according to Variety.

Marnie suffers from a life-threatening condition and the doctors believe it is in her best interests to be allowed to die, but her doting family disagree.

The story follows the family as they go through the difficult legal process and struggle to come to grips with the monumental decision.

The series explores the rights of children and the UK’s disabled community as it follows the married couple as they are forced to make impossible choices.

Previously speaking of the project, Michael said: ‘Jack Thorne is such an extraordinary writer and he has approached this incredibly important and urgent subject with humanity, honesty and humor.’

While Sharon said the emotional script for Best Interests, written by disability rights activist Jack, ‘broke’ her when she first read it.

She added: ‘Best Interests’ broke me when I first read the script and then again after talking with Jack about it.

‘COVID seems to have shone a closer light on the desperate inequalities that exist for our disabled community so this felt very timely.’

Michael’s latest venture comes after he revealed last month that his girlfriend Anna Lundberg is pregnant with their second child.

The not-for-profit actor shared the news on his Twitter account as he posted a picture of Anna’s blossoming baby bump.

The couple are parents to daughter Lyra, two, while Michael also has daughter Lily, 23, with ex Kate Beckinsale.

The adorable snap was cropped to show Anna’s baby bump while she, Michael and Lyra placed their hands lovingly on top.

Michael wrote alongside the photograph: ‘It appears there may be another on the way! #AngelDelight.’

The couple have been in a romance since May 2019 and welcomed Lyra four months later.

Last year, Michael and Anna discussed working together for the first time in the second series of BBC’s comedy series Staged and touched on juggling parenting with their new stint, set at their home in South Wales during the Covid lockdown.

The couple admitted ‘alcohol was involved’ in the scenes they filmed with David Tennant and his wife Georgia as the couples bonded and filmed the majority of their show at night when their babies were asleep.

In the programme, which used video-conferencing technology, actors Michael and David play fictionalised versions of themselves as they attempt to rehearse a Luigi Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author virtually amid the pandemic.

The Deal star admitted he struggled to shoot content with his partner as they rotated their mother and father duties.

The thespian told Radio Times: ‘They tend to happen in the night because of the babies being asleep and there tends to be alcohol involved as well. So they’re a bit… looser.’

‘I don’t think that I would have coped with you, if you were the version that you are in the show’, Anna joked.

While they’ve led busy lives during the global crisis, the duo credited the nationwide shutdowns as blessings.

The Welshman said: ‘The plan when Lyra was born was just to spend time together as a family at home. We’ve got a garden and the weather was good in the spring and summer in Wales, so for us it has all been rather lovely.’

Anna – who was informed about her role in Staged just hours before filming the pilot episode – added: ‘And the luxury of Michael just being at home has really been amazing and Lyra has certainly loved it.

‘Otherwise Michael’s always sort of popping in and out and now you’ve really been able to fully be here.

‘We’ve been able to connect together as a family, and that routine has kept us sane.’

Michael also shares his daughter Lily with his ex Kate, who he was first connected with in 1995 and began a relationship soon after their initial meeting.

The former pair went on to welcome their daughter in 1999 and collaborated on several stage and screen projects.

Although the two remained strong as a couple for several years, their relationship eventually came to an end in 2003.

Kate went on to enjoy relationships with a slew of younger men, including comedian Matt Rife, who was 21 when she dated him in 2017; SNL star Pete Davidson, who was 25 when they dated in 2019; and singer Goody Grace, who was 22 when they dated in January 2020.

Kate and Michael have remained good friends ever since the end of their romance and co-parented Lily throughout her younger years.
