Michelle Obama pens thank you note to Greek restaurant

Former first lady Michelle Obama penned a thank you note to a Greek restaurant for catering a recent private plane trip from San Francisco to Washington, DC.

The letter, which was sent to Souvla, a fast-casual Greek food chain with three locations, showcased Obama’s gratitude for making her five-hour ride ‘enjoyable’.

‘Dear Souvla Staff, I wanted to write and thank you for all the delicious food for our plane ride back to DC,’ begins the letter, dated December 14.

‘Everything was phenomenal and it made our long flight home so much more enjoyable.

‘The support of people like you is truly remarkable and means so much to Barack and I. Once again, thank you for the wonderful meal.’

It is unclear from the letter (pictured), dated December 14, whether Obama made a recent visit to San Francisco this month or if it is a belated thank you note

Souvla's original location opened in April 2014, with the second and third locations opening in 2016 on Divisadero Street and on Valencia Street (pictured) in the Mission, respectively. Ride-hailing app Lyft reported this month that the restaurant's original Haynes Valley location was the most popular drop-off destination in the county this year

The Twitter account for Souvla shared a picture of the letter on Thursday morning.

‘We’ve been so fortunate to have served so many incredible people over the years. To receive a call from @michelleobama’s team requesting Souvla for a recent trip to DC was the ultimate honor for our team,’ the post was captioned.

‘We were so grateful for this opportunity, and humbled by her letter to us.’

Obama also sent a separate letter to Souvla’s founder, Charles Bililies, to thank him for his support, which he shared on Instagram.

It is unclear from the first letter whether Obama made a recent visit to San Francisco this month or if it is a belated thank you note.

The former first lady’s last-known visit to the city took place in mid-November, when she spoke at the Salesforce Dreamforce conference.

And Obama is far from the only one to express an enthusiasm for Souvla. Lyft, the ride-hailing business, reported this month that the restaurant’s original Haynes Valley location was the most popular drop-off destination in the county this year.
