Michigan brings out JJ McCarthy, Blake Corum and Desmond Howard as special guests at school’s commencement ceremony as speaker says they ‘missed’ alum Tom Brady

Michigan brought out JJ McCarthy, Blake Corum, and Desmond Howard as surprise special guests at the school’s commencement ceremony on Saturday, while guest speaker Brad Meltzer said he ‘missed’ Wolverines alum Tom Brady. 

Meltzer is a famous children’s author and a Michigan alumnus himself, who spoke to the huge crowd at Michigan Stadium about what a degree from Ann Arbor has meant to him. 

To end his speech, Meltzer talks about magic and how it is a ‘gift you give other people’. He also said the ‘best magicians’ always have a trick up their sleeve before bringing out Howard first, then McCarthy and Corum. 

All three Wolverines football alumni received massive ovations from the crowd with Howard striking his famous Heisman Trophy pose. As a final act, the four on hand in Ann Arbor unzipped their graduation robes to show block-M Michigan t-shirts. 

Brady was not mentioned in Meltzer’s speech, but is perhaps the most famous Michigan alumni.

Instead, Brady was at Formula One’s Miami Grand Prix on Saturday, taking in the sprint race and qualifying for the Grand Prix. 

‘Hey @TomBrady, we missed you today. Go Blue!’ Meltzer said on X. ‘Love you @DesmondHoward @blake_corum and JJ McCarthy.’

Michigan won its first national championship in January with McCarthy and Corum leading the way. They were selected by the Vikings and Rams respectively in last months NFL Draft. 

Howard is the second most recent Wolverine to win the Heisman Trophy, after Charles Woodson. 

Brady was on the roster for the 1997 national championship and was Michigan’s starting quarterback during the 1998 and 1999 seasons.
