Michigan store clerk snatches gun from robber’s hands

This is definitely not how a robber in Michigan expected his crime to go.

A quick-thinking store clerk managed to disarm a man who walked into his Kalamazoo store demanding money on October 10.

Security footage shows the moment a middle aged white man wearing a face mask comes into the Campus Party Store on Michigan Ave. armed with a handgun and demanding cash.

A robber in Kalamazoo, Michigan, walked into the Campus Party Store and asked the clerk to open the cash register and hand over the money

At first, the clerk complies, opens the register, and starts handing him cash.

A customer then comes to the door, and refrains from walking in, seemingly realizing there’s a robbery going on inside.

Shortly after, the robber seems to be more distracted with the cash than with his gun, so the clerk takes advantage of the small window of opportunity, and bravely grabs the gun from the suspect’s hands, leaving the robber unarmed.

The suspect then scoops up as much cash as he can and runs out the door, and the clerk appears to run after him.

According to ABC13, the customer who had walked in on the robbery ran back to his car and called 911.

The clerk also called police after the suspect fled.

Authorities believe the robbery was connected to an earlier one the same night at DN’s Liquor Beer Wine on Shaver Road in Portage, according to Fox17.

In that incident, the subject also walked in with a handgun and jumped over the counter in an attempt to get into the cash register, which failed.

The clerk at the liquor store found a place to hide and was uninjured.

Police are still investigating both incidents and asking anyone with information to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 269-337-8120, or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
