Microsoft quits OpenAI board as regulators crack down on the influence of Big Tech

Logging out: Microsoft has given up its observatory role on the OpenAI board

Microsoft has given up its role on the OpenAI board as regulators crack down on the influence of Big Tech.

The US group, which has invested £10billion in the maker of the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT, said: ‘We no longer believe our limited role as an observer is necessary.’

Apple had been expected to take on a similar position but has reportedly axed these plans, as regulators on both sides of the Atlantic flag up their concerns about Silicon Valley’s growing influence on the emergence of AI.

OpenAI’s huge popularity has the potential to make billions for creators and investors.
