Mike Tyson has shared his view after UFC kingpin Dana White announced his entry into the world of boxing.

After being installed as UFC president in 2001 following the acquisition of the promotion by the Fertitta brothers White has revolutionised the sport of mixed martial arts.

However, while MMA has become a viable contender to boxing largely as a result of White’s stewardship the 55-year-old has always retained his love for the sweet science.

Having previously hinted a potential move into boxing promotion in recent years White officially announced earlier this week that he is ready to take his talents to the ring.

Asked about White’s ambitions on the What Is It podcast Tyson insisted White’s involvement could prove transformative for the sport of boxing.

‘Listen, that’s going to be the best thing to ever happen to boxing,’ Tyson said.

‘If you’re in the UFC and if anyone is booing your fight, you’re not gonna see that guy again, his next fight is gonna be in South Dakota somewhere.

‘If you don’t have a good fight, you’re never gonna see that guy again, not like boxing, ‘Oh this guy is gonna fight next month again,’ I don’t wanna see that.

‘If any fights stink, you’re not back in the UFC anymore, you’re never going to see those guys again,’

White has made tentative steps into boxing including his involvement in the 2017 ‘Money Fight’ between then-UFC champion Conor McGregor and boxing great Floyd Mayweather.

He has also been heavily involved in guiding the career of burgeoning super welterweight prospect Callum Walsh.

Speaking following Dana White’s Contender Series 73 on Wednesday the UFC president insisted now is the right time for him to make his move.

‘I have a plan,’ White said.

‘I’m going to implement that plan and we’ll see how that works. … People have been talking about the demise of boxing for 30 years and we’re still here talking about boxing right now.

‘I have always had an idea of how I thought it should be done. I don’t know if that’s possible, but we’re going to find out. I’m coming in guns blazing.’
