Mike Young from Lake Elsinore is this year’s ‘Gary from Chicago’

Jimmy Kimmel has done it yet again, giving an everyday man his shot of fame at the 90th Academy Awards ceremony.

Last year Kimmel surprised a bus of Hollywood tourists when he invited them to walk through the Oscars ceremony where ‘Gary from Chicago’ stole the show as he incredulously filmed the star-studded theater on his phone, hugged Denzel Washington and kissed Nicole Kidman’s hand.

This year host Kimmel took the stars to the fans, leading an entourage of Gal Gadot, Margot Robbie and Lupita Nyong’o to a nearby theater to surprise fans with candy, hot dogs, and five minutes of fame.

That’s where audience member Mike Young was hand-picked from the crowd to announce the show’s next presenters on national television.

Young took the microphone where he slightly stumbled on his words as he introduced Tiffany Haddish – which he mispronounced as ‘Hatson…Hatshich’ – and Maya Rudolph to the stage at Dolby Theatre.

Young told the host he hailed from Lake Elsinore, which ignited a social media storm of pride for the California hometown.

‘Shout out to Mike Young who just inserted Lake Elsinore into the #Oscars,’ one Twitter user wrote.

‘You GO, Mike Young!! The first person from LAKE ELSINORE ever to be on the #Oscars,’ another fan added.

‘Okay Mike Young from Lake Elsinore!!! Repping the hometown!’ a proud Lake Elsinore resident said.

Young was attending a preview of ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ at TCL Chinese Theatres where he was shocked to see Kimmel stride in with Ansel Elgort, Mark Hamill, Emily Blunt, Lin Manuel Miranda, Guillermo del Toro, and Armie Hammer in tow. Jimmy Kimmel Live’s co-star Guillermo was there to join the fun as well.

As Gal Gadot entered the theater greeting the shocked movie-goers she gushed ‘This is better than the Oscars!’

Last year Gary Alan Coe delighted the audience as he walked through the Oscar ceremony with absolute wonder.

He recorded every moment on his phone and was asked by Jimmy to introduce himself, to which he answered ‘Gary from Chicago’ creating a nickname that would win him viral fame.

However Coe shared that the fame was not all it’s cracked up to be.

The media attention shed light on his criminal history revealing he was just three days out of jail – where he served a 20 year sentence – when he walked onto the Oscars floor.

‘It was horrible,’ Coe told Hollywood Reporter. ‘I didn’t ask to be put on the Oscars. I was minding my own business, walking down the street.’

He’d been sentenced as part of the three-strikes law in California, with one of his arrests for an alleged attempted rape.
