Minicab drivers fight in front of cabbies in Mayfair

These two minicab drivers exchanged blows on a Mayfair street after getting into an argument about who should have given way.

The men got into a tense stand-off at 7.30pm yesterday after one accused the other of not allowing them enough space to pass as they moved through heavy traffic on Curzon Street.

One driver, wearing a leather jacket, threw and dodged punches from his opponent, who was seated in a black Mercedes, before the angry duo squared up on the road.

Mario Lucas, a black cab driver who witnessed the confrontation, told MailOnline: ‘I was just coming on to Curzon Street and the traffic was at a standstill.

‘There was a stand-off, neither one of them would move back. They were squaring at each other and abusing each other.

‘The guy got out of the car first and they started squaring up. It was childish really. It was giving each other space. One of them insulted their mother and wife.’

After getting out of his car, the black Mercedes driver goaded his opponent to punch him saying, ‘Go on, I’d love to knock you out’.

But other drivers urged them to move on, with one shouting, ‘Come on guys, we’ve all got to make a living, we’ve all got to move. Let’s go man, this is crazy.’

Another said: ‘Driver why are you doing this you’re going to lose your licence, idiot.’

Mr Lucas, 55, said it was the worse fight he had seen during his career on the road.

‘I’ve never seen blows actually exchanged. I’ve seen one incident when it was just words, but not this.’
