Minnesota feline ties Guinness World Record with 28 toes

A cat from Minnesota has equaled a world record for the most number of toes on its paws.

Aptly named, Paws, a polydactyl cat, the fury feline has 28 toes with three extra on each fore paw and two extra on each back paw.

Normal cats have a total of 18 toes, with six toes on each fore paw, and fiver toes on each hind paw.

Paws has a rare condition where she has oversized paws and more toes

Paws, who is three-years-old is tied with another cat for the Guinness World Record for the feline with the most toes.

Owner Jeanne Martin, of Northfield, Minnesota says Paws’ genetic trait comes in handy.

When she takes her beloved Paws to the vet to get her claws trimmed reminds them to make sure they get all 28 – and they don’t even charge her extra.

‘It almost looks like a catcher’s mitt,’ Martin said. She said the extra tows help her grip onto narrow surfaces.

Paws was rescued from a maple syrup farm near Cokato.

‘She used to love it when I would have her sit on my lap and rub her belly and she felt pretty safe, so eventually when she had kittens, she brought them back to my farm and stashed them in the Studebaker truck I was working on,’ Walter Nachtigall who rescued Paws, said to CBS Minnesota.

Normal cats have a total of 18 toes, with five toes on each front paw and four toes on each hind paw. But polydactyl cats may have as many as seven digits on their front and/or hind paws.

Various combinations of anywhere from four to seven toes per paw are common, and the number of toes on either the front or rear paws is typically the same.
