Minnesota lawyer couple found dead in murder suicide

A pair of well-known, recently divorced Minnesota lawyers have been found dead in an apparent murder suicide. 

Ryan and Sarah Cheshire, both 41, were both found inside an apartment where he was living in Fergus Falls, on Wednesday night. 

Both had suffered gun shot wounds. Police believe Ryan shot his wife then turned the gun on himself. The pair had three children.

It is not clear how long the pair were married but their divorce was finalized just three weeks ago. 

The couple had recently divorced and were living separately. It is not clear why Sarah had gone to her estranged husband’s apartment on the night she died. 

At around 11pm, neighbors heard screams and called police. When officers arrived, they found the pair dead inside. 

Sarah’s uncle told Brad Benson told Twin Cities the family had long worried about her marriage to Ryan. 

He described him as controlling and abusive.

The couple were both prominent local attorneys. Ryan was an assistant county prosecutor and Sarah was a named partner at a private firm

Mother-of-three Sarah was a named partner at the law firm where she had spent the last four years working and specialized in family law and bankruptcy.  

Her husband was an assistant prosecutor for Otter Tail County. 

His father was a US Marshal who died in the line of duty in 1983. 

They had been living in the area for 11 years before their deaths.  

The couple’s friends are now fundraising for their three orphaned children on a GoFundMe page.
