Minnesota pilot is rescued after his single-engine plane got caught in power lines and he was left dangling upside-down

  • Minnesota pilot Thomas Kokovish, 65, was rescued on Saturday after his single-engine plane got tangled in power lines 
  • Kokovish, of Shakopee, was traveling south when he hit a cluster of power lines
  • The wheel got caught on a wire and the plane was suspended up-side down
  • Rescuers de-energized the power line to rescue him
  • He was the sole occupant of the plane and did not sustain any injuries  

A pilot was miraculously rescued after his single-engine plane got entangled in power lines in Minnesota and the aircraft was left dangling upside-down. 

Thomas Koskovich, 65, of Shakopee, was flying his Piper Cub south when his aircraft’s wheel got caught on a wire and the plane was suspended upside-down on Saturday around 4pm, officials said.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office was alerted about the trapped plane in Louisville Township and rushed to Koskovich’s rescue. 

The power in the high-voltage wires was shut off as rescuers freed the pilot. 

Koskovich was the sole occupant of the plane and was not injured in the accident.

‘This incident could have been much worse. We are grateful the pilot was able to walk away without any injuries,’ Sheriff Luke Hennen said in a news release. 

Photos from the accident scene show the plane perilously dangling by just one wheel several feet above the ground in the rural area.  

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
