Miracle baby boy survived a horror crash in Swansea

A baby miraculously escaped from a tragic car crash with just a ‘bump on the head’ despite the death of his mother and her boyfriend, an inquest heard today.

Little Brogan Carter, ten months, survived when the car smashed into an electricity post in wet conditions.

His mother Naomi Carter, 18 and her boyfriend Jason Thomas, 23, were both killed when he ‘lost control’ and slid into the post.

An inquest into their deaths heard their baby son was retrieved from the crumpled car with nothing more than a ‘large bump’ to his forehead – and is now ‘fine.’

Acting senior Swansea coroner Colin Phillips said no other car was involved in the crash in Trebanos, Swansea, South Wales, in which the car ended up ‘wrapped around the post’.

He added the wet conditions on the day of November 4 would have made it difficult for a driver to make a hard brake.

The family of Mr Thomas, who had become a dad just six months before he was killed, described him as ‘a highly sensitive, emotional and thoughtful person’.

They said: ‘Jason was a much-loved son, brother, grandson, nephew and uncle and had, earlier this year, become a new dad. He was so kind and would literally do anything to help anyone.

‘He was a highly sensitive, emotional and thoughtful person but also knew how to enjoy himself.

‘He was very respectful of the local community of Trebanos where he was very well-known and they, in turn, respected him.

‘Jason became a dad to Freya in May of this year and was besotted with his beautiful baby daughter. There are lots of children in our large family who all loved and doted on their favourite uncle Jason.’

Miss Carter’s mother, Kerry, described her daughter as a ‘cheeky, outgoing, fun-loving’ woman, who loved life and enjoyed music, dancing and partying.

She said they would ‘carry her memory’ for her son.

She said: ‘Naomi took to motherhood at a young age and cherished and loved her young son Brogan.

‘She has left a massive hole in our hearts and will be missed every day. We as a family are heartbroken and will carry her memory on for Brogan.

‘Our thoughts go to Jason’s family also. Jason made Naomi happy in the last few months and I hope they both rest in peace together.

‘Gone, but never forgotten and my heart goes out to Jason’s family and friends.’

The inquest was adjourned until next April for the results of toxicology tests and an investigation by South Wales Police’s serious collision team.
