Missing Elisa Curry may have been swept out to sea

Elisa Curry, 42, was last seen heading out for a run on Aireys Street, south-west of Melbourne, at around 10.30pm on Saturday

Missing Melbourne mother Elisa Curry may have fallen off a cliff and been swept out to sea while jogging along the Great Ocean Road.

The 43-year-old vanished about 10pm after watching the AFL Grand Final with neighbours of her holiday home in Aireys Inlet, Victoria.

Inspector Peter Seel said police believed Ms Curry disappeared after going for a run with her labrador, but didn’t know which way she went.

‘It could have been toward the seaside to Aireys Inlet or bush tracks. She was known to run a fair bit to Lorne (20km away) and back,’ he told 3AW radio

‘It is possible that it could be dragged out. It depends on where they fell… if it was into rocks, the body could be caught within rocks under water.’

Police would also not rule out the mother-of-three meeting with foul play and were unsure if her body would ever be found.

‘It’s all very much dependent on the circumstances. We are looking at either a missing person or foul play,’ Inspector Seel said.

‘We are not discounting… that she may have gone down to the beach and something has happened down there.’

Inspector Seel said whether her body could be found depended on what happened to her ‘and whether she’s disoriented, lost or injured’.

‘She could have gone for a run and injured herself, she could have become disorientated and lost, there could be suspicious circumstances,’ he said.

Ms Curry, an avid runner who competed in marathons, was more likely to have gone jogging early Sunday morning, before her husband got home at 9am, than Saturday night.

The search is now in its fourth day and Inspector Seel said officers would look at both inland and coastal areas on Wednesday.

They would focus on running paths, car parks, and cliffs, and police divers would comb the ocean for a body.

But the search would be ‘reassessed’ after that as with every hour that went by it became less likely Ms Curry was still alive.

‘We’re hopeful that she is alive, we’re looking for a live person at the moment,’ Inspector Seel told reporters.

‘Obviously as time goes on it’s less likely that she is alive.’

Inspector Seel said her husband David Curry, and their children, were ‘distressed and worried’ about her fate.

‘They don’t know what’s happened and we can’t give them the answers at the moment, which is sad,’ he said.

Her David Curry broke his silence on Tuesday morning pleading with the public to call police if they had seen his wife.

‘I, my kids, we just want her to come home,’ he said, before speaking directly to his wife in the hope she was still alive.

‘Elisa, if you are out there, can you please contact us.’

Police also increased the search area on Tuesday – hoping to find the missing woman.

Her husband arrived at the house with the couple’s three children to find she was missing.

The labrador was found on Monday in a neighbour’s yard. The mother’s phone is going straight to voicemail.

Police have searched the area where the 42-year-old was last seen but she has yet to be found.

‘There’s nothing at this point in time to say anything untoward happened,’ Senior Sergeant Robert Wilby told The Age.

‘No one seems to be able to shed any light on it…’Police and family have concerns for Elisa as her disappearance is out of character.’

Ms Curry has no known health concerns, and police confirmed that there are no signs of a break-in at her home.

Anyone with information about Ms Curry’s disappearance is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
