Missing Manchester woman’s son in appeal to find her

The son of a woman who went missing a week before Christmas made an emotional appeal – on her birthday – in a bid to find his ‘wonderful mother’.

Marie Scott, from Altrincham, was last seen on CCTV near The Wharf bar in Manchester city centre at 1.20pm on December 18.

The mother-of-two – who turned 58 on Boxing Day – was also caught on CCTV, earlier the same day, at Altrincham Metrolink station at 12.30pm after leaving her home in Sandileigh Avenue.

Her eldest son, Stuart, issued his appeal on Facebook, where he described her as a ‘wonderful mother.’

In a post from December 26, he wrote: ‘I can’t express in words the utter pain and devastation we are feeling at the moment.

‘If anyone does see my mum, please let us know she is safe. It’s my mum’s birthday today so Happy Birthday my darling mum. We all love you.’

He added: ‘Mum was last seen on CCTV cameras near The Wharf bar in Manchester at approx 1.20pm, she walked across the footbridge in front of the pub and had a conversation with someone for around 20 seconds (we need this man to come forward) before heading towards Castlefield Bowl on Rice Street.

‘Mum is 5ft 4in tall with mid-length blonde hair and at that time carrying an orange Sainsbury’s bag.’

The mother-of-two was caught on CCTV - released by Greater Manchester Police- on December 18, the day she vanished, at Altrincham Metrolink station (above) at 12.30pm after leaving her home in Sandileigh Avenue

Ms Scott had been struggling to cope with the recent loss of her mother, according to the Manchester Evening News.

After taking a tram to the city centre, she got off at Deansgate before walking to Castlefield.

It is believed that she briefly spoke to a person after crossing the footbridge near the Wharf bar to ask for directions.
