Missing Sydney boy reunited with family after search

  • Desperate search was underway for a missing boy in Sydney’s northern beaches
  • The nine-year-old was last seen in Cross Street, Balgowlah at 4.30pm on Friday
  • Mario Caruso was found by a neighbour among some trees who was out looking  

The desperate family of a missing and intellectually disabled nine-year-old boy are breathing a sigh of relief after he finally returned home.

Mario Caruso was last seen on Cross Street in Balgowlah on Sydney’s northern beaches about 4.30pm on Friday when his disappearance was reported to police.

Mario’s family and police were concerned for his safety as he has a mild intellectual disability, but he was spotted by a neighbour and returned home about midday on Saturday according to Seven News.

Liam Fletcher was looking for Mario and found him among some trees near his home.

‘I said Mario, Mario stop, and then he kept walking and I grabbed him, and then the police dog came and we walked him back to his residence,’ Mr Fletcher told 7News.

Mr Fletcher said the boy looked a little upset and distressed when he was found.

Mario told his family he spent the night at a friend’s house.
