Missing toddler William Tyrrell’s grandfather dies

Missing toddler William Tyrrell’s grandfather has died in the latest loss to befall the troubled family.

A funeral for David Tyrrell, whose daughter Karlie is William’s biological mother, was held at Macquarie Park Crematorium in Sydney’s northern suburbs on Wednesday.

Strangers expressed their sorrow on social media over Mr Tyrrell’s death, noting the family had gone through a terrible few years.

‘It’s not right,’ one wrote. ‘This family has been through too much already. My deepest condolences to all affected by this sad news.’

Another wrote: ‘My sincere condolences to karlie and her family.’

Mr Tyrrell, from Hunters Hill, was pictured with Karlie in January when she faced Burwood Local Court to be sentenced for assaulting a police officer and using offensive language in a public place.

That sentencing was adjourned until March 19 when Tyrell failed to appear in court.

Legal Aid informed the court Tyrrell had failed to tell them she would not appear and did not give them any instructions.

Security guards at Top Ryde shopping centre in Sydney’s northern suburbs reported Tyrrell had been acting aggressively and swearing around other customers, including children, on December 22 last year.

According to police reports, Tyrrell got abusive when an officer asked her why a child that was with her had marks on their legs to which she replied ‘none of your f****** business’.

Tyrrell then spat in the face of a second officer before saying that ‘Ryde coppers lost my son you c***’.

The 29-year-old was also due to appear in court on a drug possession charge after she was allegedly found with 6.2 grams of cannabis on February 9.

Tyrrell has a criminal history which includes assaulting officers and civilians as well as resisting arrest, damaging property and breaching bail.

She recently penned a letter stating mental health problems were the cause of her erratic and violent behaviour.

‘I recently found out I suffer from panic attacks which played a major part into my behaviour but I’m not making any excuses,’ Tyrrell wrote.

She did not appear in court on Tuesday, the day before her father’s funeral.

William Tyrrell was three years old when last seen playing in his foster grandmother’s yard at Kendall, south of Port Macquarie, on September 12, 2014.

He was removed from the care of his mother due to concerns about domestic violence and drug abuse. She is next due in court on April 24.

William’s biological father Brendan Collins was sentenced to seven months’ jail in January following his conviction over drug and theft offences.
