The head of a public university in Missouri was captured on cellphone video earlier this month as he guzzled beer from a bong while students cheered him on during game day.

Southeast Missouri State University President Carlos Vargas was forced to apologize this week for his behavior while off the clock after he received backlash – which his supportive students have deemed ridiculous.

Vargas wrote in a statement: ‘During my attendance at a tailgate party prior to the Southeast football game on September 15, I was observed being offered and accepting to drink beer from a beer bong.

He said drinking that from the device, associated with binge drinking, is not a form of conduct he condones.

One said: ‘There is no way DR Carlos Vargas should apologize for being a FREAKING MAN.

‘The moment students or faculty cried about it… he should have shut down all safe spaces and diversity classes.’

Another added: ‘I love SEMO & our iconic president Dr Carlos Vargas.’

Others called Vargas ‘a freaking legend’ and insisted he has no reason to be sorry for having a little fun.
