Mistah Cee: Aussie DJ goes viral after playing a set for concert goers on a train to Fred Again’s sold-out show – and why he thinks Sydney has become a ‘dud city’

An Australian DJ has gone viral after he played an impromptu set of house music for Sydney concert goers on the train heading to Fred Again’s show at Qudos Bank Arena this week.

Sydney-born Mistah Cee fashioned together a mixer and soundboard in an old shopping trolley and performed to commuters during peak hour on Wednesday.

Footage shared to TikTok showed the rising star having a ball with close to 100 passengers who excitedly raved to his music.

Mistah Cee told Daily Mail Australia the reason he decided to host his own spontaneous concert ahead of UK-based DJ Fred Again’s sold-out show.

‘Sydney is a bit of a dud city, it’s a little bit dry in terms of the culture and flavour. My goal is to carve out my name, to be that one DJ that is thinking outside the box,’ he said.

‘We were going to do it outside but I said to my management, “What if we do it inside a train?” One thing I live by is seek forgiveness, not permission.’

Cee added he had not yet met his idol Fred Again, but had reached out to him and was eagerly awaiting a response.

‘The plan is to be as big as Fred Again one day. My father is African-American and my mother is Australian, so I was exposed to a lot of culture,’ he said.

‘There’s a lot of flavour in African-American neighbourhoods. Australia is lacking that freedom of expression, to let loose and completely let go.’

Mister Cee, who has a popular YouTube channel with over 17,000 subscribers, hinted he had something equally big planned when American R’n’B star SZA arrived in Sydney in April.

He has been DJing since 2006 and has developed a reputation for wowing crowds with a mixture of old and new hip hop songs.

Meanwhile, Fred Again kicked off his tour in Melbourne, playing three back-to-back shows from March 4 to March 6 at Rod Laver Arena, before he headed to a pop up location on the Gold Coast on March 9.

He then returned to Sydney for three shows at Qudos Bank Arena from March 12 to March 14, performing to packed houses.

Fred will perform his final Australian show in Sydney on Saturday at The Domain.
