Mix FM breakfast radio host dumped by station after returning from Christmas holidays: ‘I was told I wouldn’t have a role at all’

Radio presenter Shane Lowe has parted ways with Adelaide’s Mix 102.3 FM.

The popular breakfast host said he discovered he had been axed from the Max & Ali show only after returning from his Christmas break.

Posting to his Facebook on Friday Lowe thanked his fans and added that he no longer had any ‘role’ at the station.

Lowe also used his message to point out that the station had made no official announcement over the changes to their morning line-up or his axing.

Up until the new year, the struggling Mix  102.3 program was known as The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show which featured host Clarke and Max Burford alongside Eddie Bannon and Lowe.

But last week listeners learned that the show’s name had been altered to the Max and Ali Show.

‘Soooo… update on life,’ Lowe messaged fans on Facebook.

‘You may not have heard, but I was informed, that after returning from my Christmas break, that I was no longer needed on the Mix 102.3 breakfast show.

‘Also I was told that after three years working the Ali Clarke breakfast show I wouldn’t have a role at all Mix in 2024. Umm…Okay….

You may not have known this, that’s probably because it was never mentioned to anyone out side of the company.

The Advertiser reported on Saturday that a spokesperson from ARN, owners of Mix 102.3 FM, had made a statement about the changes to the breakfast line-up:

‘Mix 102.3 unveiled this year’s breakfast show as Max & Ali in the Morning, bringing Adelaide the most fun start to the day in Adelaide,’ they said.

‘We thank Shane for his time at Mix and wish him all the best for the future.’

It comes after the Ali Clarke Show finished in fourth place in the last radio ratings survey of 2023.

Triple M’s breakfast team landed in the number one spot in Adelaide’s breakfast radio wars with a 16.3 per cent share of listeners.

It was then a race to the bottom for the runners up, with ABC Adelaide in second spot with an 11.8 per cent share, and FIVEaa in third position with a 11.4 share.

Meanwhile, Clarke’s old team, including Lowe pulled in an audience share of 10.1 per cent.
