A rush to get tickets to Saturday’s MLS Cup Final ensued after the password to a pre-sale for tickets was leaked and prices were sent skyrocketing by scalpers and supporters group fans could not get their own seats.
It forced the Crew and the league to go back to square one and voided the sale of some of the tickets, according to a statement.
‘Today’s password-protected presale for MLS Cup tickets was accessed by a number of unauthorized individuals. We have cancelled orders made by these unauthorized parties,’ the statement read.
‘To accomodate Crew fans, we will open an updated presale window exclusively for season ticket members tomorrow, ahead of the general public on sale. We look forward to packing lower.com Field on Saturday.’
According to a report from The Columbus Dispatch, by the time season-ticket holders got access to the pre-sale, every seat in the supporters group area – the Nordecke – was sold out.
A bungled ticket roll out meant Columbus Crew supporters couldn’t buy their own seats
MLS is in charge of ticket allocation and a leaked pre-sale code meant the Nordecke was sold out long before any supporters were able to get their hands on the seats they had all year

That included the seats that Nordecke ticket holders had been using the entire season. By 1:00pm local time, every seat in that section was gone.
But, according to Kourtney Sullivan, a member of the Nordecke board of directors, tickets flooded the market by 8:00pm later that day.
‘There were 400 listings on SeatGeek for tickets,’ Sullivan said. ‘That clearly tells me this was poorly run, and they never wanted to get Nordecke into the stadium.
‘But they still want to have the same game-day atmosphere. How? With no Brass, no capos, no tifo… who do we get for game-day atmosphere? They didn’t let them in.’
The most likely reason for all those tickets being sold out was due to the corporate sponsorship access code being leaked – allowing anyone with it to have easy access to the stadium’s loudest section.
Ticket sales for MLS Cup Final are run and operated by the league and they worked with Ticketmaster and the club’s ticket office to rectify the issue by cancelling those prior orders.
Columbus upset cross-state rivals FC Cincinnati in an Eastern Conference Finals version of the ‘Hell is Real’ derby. The Crew won after extra time thanks to an 115th minute winner from forward Christian Ramirez.
The Crew will be hosting the cup final against Los Angeles FC – the reigning title holders from the 2022 season.
