MMA star Mauro Chaulet shot dead in Porto Alegre after violent altercation with an off-duty military police officer which began in a local bar and saw both men receive gunshot wounds, reports in Brazil claim

MMA star Mauro Chaulet has been shot dead by military police in Porto Alegre, Brazil, local media has reported.

The 34-year-old was said to have become engaged in a violent altercation with a military police officer at a local bar before the incident escalated.

According to local media, namely Radio Guaiba, Chaulet died of a gunshot wound, while a female companion of his was also shot, but survived.

The incident is said to have began at around midnight, at Auma Bar, located in the northern part of the city.

Some reports state that Chaulet’s female acquaintance had become involved in an argument with a woman accompanying the police officer.

It is said that the military police officer was off duty, though the incident developed after a gun was drawn. It is not clear who fired the first shot. 

Local reports state that Chaulet managed to shoot the police officer in the groin. Whether he did this with his own gun or the officer’s is as yet unclear.

Shortly after, Chaulet himself was shot in the back, while his acquaintance was shot in the stomach. 

Both the woman and the police officer were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, though it has been reported that both have survived the incident.  

Chaulet was said to be represented by management company Team Goat Management.

A TGM Instagram statement following the alleged incident read: ‘Unfortunately, today we lost another great person, victim of the brutal violence in Brazil that is repeated every day.

‘You were special and will never be forgotten for us! RIP Mauro Chaulet.’

It has been reported that Chaulet had had a number of brushes with the law prior to the allegedly fatal incident. 

These reportedly include bodily harm and use of false documents.
