Mo Salah’s Liverpool future is secured, a 20th domestic title is in the bag and, now, the Egypt striker is setting his sights on next season.

Liverpool clinched the Premier League crown with a thumping 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, putting them out of reach of second-placed Arsenal.

That drew them level with Manchester United on 20 English top division titles and means they are just four trophies off their bitter rivals’ total haul of 60.

The Reds’ coronation came just two weeks after their star player, Salah, committed himself to the club by signing a two-year contract worth £380,000 per week.

That ended months of speculation about the 32-year-old’s future as his deal neared expiration and Liverpool fans feared he would depart the club in the summer.

The saga added poignancy to Salah and Liverpool’s celebrations on Sunday and, on Tuesday, the forward took to social media to reflect on the title win — and to look ahead to next season.

This is what we wanted to deliver to our fans more than anything. This is a club that should always compete for everything and be right at the top. No excuses. All teams win games but in the end there’s only one champion. That’s what history remembers and this applies to next… pic.twitter.com/pT9QZAc4Z9

‘This is what we wanted to deliver to our fans more than anything,’ he posted on X along with photographs of Anfield celebrations.

‘This is a club that should always compete for everything and be right at the top. No excuses. All teams win games but in the end there’s only one champion. That’s what history remembers and this applies to next season as well.’

The words will ring as an ominous statement of intent for Liverpool’s rivals from a man who is top of the Premier League charts for both goals scored (28) and assists (18).

His comments on social media were also nod to remarkable scenes of celebration at Anfield on Sunday. It was the second time Salah has won the Premier League title but the occasion couldn’t have been much more different to 2020, when the Reds played out the final 10 games of their title-winning campaign in front of empty grounds due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘This is way better, 100 per cent,’ Salah told Sky Sports after Sunday’s clincher.

‘Without Sadio (Mane), without Jurgen, without Bobby (Firmino) — without everybody it feels more special.

‘We have a different group now, different manager, so to be able to do it again is something special.’

Salah also paid tribute to Arne Slot who replaced Jurgen Klopp at the start of the season. Asked if his new manager had made him a better player, Salah joked: ‘You can see the numbers — it seems so!

‘He was very honest. He’s quite tough his personality, but he made our lives easier because you knew immediately what he wanted you to do, which is what we did.’
