Mobil gas station employee demands to know if group of Mexican women are citizens

An Illinois gas station clerk was filmed going on a racist tirade while refusing to service a group of Mexican women, telling them to go back to their own country or else ‘ICE will come.’

The man’s hateful rant invoked the latest of President Trump’s attacks on several women of color in the Democratic party and comes just a day before his supporters chanted to send Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) back to Somalia.

In post shared to social media, the women claimed that they were refused service at a Naperville, Illinois, Mobil gas station because they were Mexican. The incident occurred inside the Bucky’s Express.

Footage shows the man – identified as Joseph Phillip Daniel – telling the women that he is an American before asking if they are citizens. One of the people he asked was a 15-year-old girl.

‘Don’t you know the rules,’ he can be heard stating.

The women exclaim their disbelief at what the man is saying, he tells them that ‘they need to go back to their country,’ before adding that ‘it’s illegal’ for them to be there.

As he is called a racist and deemed a bigot, Daniel asserts that he hates ‘that agenda.’

He continued: ‘ICE will come!’

As the women leave the store, Daniel tells the women that God will bless them before getting one last jab in.

‘You are in the wrong country,’ he declared.

Carolina Buitron, a woman born in America and cousin to the Mexican women, was filmed arguing with the clerk and the customer. 'We come to this gas station all the time on our bikes,' she added

Another video shows the women also being accosted by a customer in the store who claimed that they had no rights in there because it was the man’s business.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the women had been riding their bikes when the teenager’s gave out. They had gone into the grocery store to get some snacks when the confrontation unfolded.

On Wednesday, Buitron and others took to the streets in front of the gas station to protest.

Protesters held signs saying ‘Boycott Racism’ and ‘Make Racist Wrong Again.’

Jeremy Eikenberry, a spokesman for ExxonMobil, released a statement to DailyMail.com sharing that they were aware of the event.

‘ExxonMobil does not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment by any company representative,’ he said. ‘ExxonMobil’s global policies promote diversity and inclusion and prohibit any form of discrimination or harassment in any company workplace, anywhere around the world.’

‘ExxonMobil does not own or operate any retail fuels stations in the United States, but we are aware of the situation and take these matters very seriously.’

The statement added that independent wholesalers/owners operate the gas stations.

Steve Kalhorn, the general counsel with Buchanan Energy, acknowledged that Daniel was no longer employed at the gas station.

‘Within the last few hours, a video was posted on social media displaying a Bucky’s associate engaged in a confrontation with a customer,’ he said in a statement to DailyMail.com.

‘The comments of this associate are not reflective of the core values of Bucky’s Convenience Stores. We are aware of the situation and are managing this personnel issue. We take this matter seriously and strive to ensure that all customers are treated with respect.’

Kalhorn did note, however, that he believed that there was more to the story as surveillance footage showed the women pulling out their phones prior to going into the store.

He stressed that Buchanan Energy is a ‘pretty diverse organization,’ adding that the manager of that particular station is a Hispanic woman.

But Kalhorn asserted that that was not the way to conduct business with customers.

‘You don’t get into arguments with your customers,’ he added. ‘I don’t care what color they are.’

‘Let me be abundantly clear: hate has no home here in Naperville. Quite frankly, this type of behavior has no place in society at large. Our city prides itself on being open and inclusive to all,’ he said.

‘Civility towards each other is an important component of being a global citizen, and I urge everyone in our community to showcase the kindness, compassion, and good decorum that our residents are known for and that our world needs more of.’

On social media, Daniel calls himself a ‘seer’ and claims that he curses anyone who speaks ill of Donald Trump. He refers to Joe Biden and the ‘squad’ as Satanist.
