Egypt have called up Mohamed Salah for a tournament this month despite a request from Liverpool to rest the forward.

The 32-year-old forward missed Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest due to a hamstring injury.

He picked up an hamstring injury while playing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations back in January, but the forward returned to action off the bench in the 4-1 win over Brentford last month.

However, he ultimately suffered a recurrence of the injury in that game and has missed Liverpool’s last four matches as a result.

On Friday, Klopp also confirmed that Salah, who has been suffering from a thigh problem will be able to resume training next week which would bring him into contention to face City next Sunday.

‘I don’t think Mo is too far off, but he will not feature [at Forest],’ Klopp said. ‘From there, we have to go. Touch and go, unfortunately that stays the case with Mo for a little bit longer.

‘But I think next week, at any point, it is possible. So he is on the way back, definitely, but not there yet.’

And with the Reds still in the hunt for a quadruple, they asked the Egyptian FA to rest him during the upcoming international break.

But new Egypt boss Hossam Hassan on Saturday named Salah among seven foreign-based players in the his squad for the upcoming training camp in March, according to ahramonline

The Pharaohs are gearing up to participate in a friendly tournament in the UAE between March 22 and 26.

The tournament will also feature Tunisia, Croatia, and New Zealand.
