Thi Nhat Ha Nguyen, 29, was arrested on suspicion of homicide on Tuesday
A 29-year-old California mother is accused of murdering her four-month-old baby and reportedly laughed when the infant’s father asked what happened.
Thi Nhat Ha Nguyen was arrested on suspicion of homicide on Tuesday night by Westminster police officers.
The baby’s heartbroken father, Hung Nguyen, told authorities that his girlfriend was acting strangely and that their son, Nau, was not breathing when he came home.
He tearfully told KTLA that he asked her what happened to their son and he said she kept laughing.
Hung said that he saw a mark on the baby’s face and when he tried to carry him, the baby would not move.
Emergency officials tried to revive the baby boy, but were unsuccessful. The four-month-old was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead shortly after.

The mother was arrested, but the baby’s cause of death has not been determined.
Authorities and Hung said the boy might have suffered some sort of head trauma.
Police said it’s too early to know if postpartum depression may have been a factor.
‘That’s always a factor and consideration when you find a young mother and a young child. Certainly our investigators will evaluate that,’ Commander Cameron Knauerhaze of Westminster police told KABC.
The couple do not have any other children.
‘She loved him a lot,’ Hung told KABC of his girlfriend and their son. ‘I don’t think she did that. But who else?’
The incident remained under investigation by the Westminster Police Department Crimes Against Persons unit.
