Mom announces she’s pregnant with own COUSIN through IVF after aunt and uncle battled infertility

A mother-of-three has revealed that she is pregnant with her own cousin through IVF – after agreeing to serve as a surrogate for her aunt and uncle who have spent years struggling to conceive amid infertility issues.

Kayleigh Robertson, a mom-of-three and fitness influencer from Alberta, Canada, said that after ‘completing her own family’ in September 2020, she offered to help her aunt – who is unable to become pregnant – expand hers.

She explained that because her ‘body handles pregnancy well’ and because she ‘enjoys being pregnant,’ she decided to carry her baby for her.

After spending ‘months’ undergoing fertility treatments – which involved ‘a whole lot of hormones and needles’ – Kayleigh is now pregnant with her aunt and uncle’s child, which means she will give birth to her own cousin in September when the baby is due.

‘Here we go! Now I get to start telling everyone I am pregnant with my cousin… Some interesting conversations await,’ she wrote on Instagram, while first announcing the pregnancy back in January.

‘When I first offered to be a surrogate, I knew it was going to be a process. But I had no idea just how that process would go and what it would really be like.

‘Now that I’m on the other side… I can honestly say that it was a LOT. But it was also so very worth it.’

Kayleigh recalled ‘a long road of screening procedures, paperwork, blood tests, appointments, legal contracts, injections, hormones, other fertility meds, and two embryo transfers’ before she finally became pregnant.

But in the end, she called it the most ‘rewarding’ thing she has ever done.

‘I am so grateful that I have this opportunity, and that I get to be in this position,’ she gushed.

In a separate post, Kayleigh explained that she suffered from her own pregnancy loss back in 2016, when she miscarried at 13 weeks. And ever since, she said she’s had ‘a huge heart for infertility struggles.’

‘It just seemed like what I was supposed to do,’ she explained. ‘I love being pregnant, had the world’s easiest pregnancies.’

According to the influencer, the biggest perk of the whole ordeal – ‘besides being able to give them this gift’ – is getting to ‘freak people out’ when she tells them she’s going to give birth to her own cousin.

‘We’re having way too much fun with that part,’ she joked.

However, the mom-of-three has received some backlash for choosing to carry her aunt and uncle’s child on social media, with some people accusing her of ‘only going through with it’ because she is ‘getting good money.’

She responded to the backlash in a third post, explaining that while her medical expenses have been covered, she has not been paid for the pregnancy at all.

‘There are definitely surrogates in different locations that do receive compensation – but that is not part of my own personal journey,’ she wrote on Instagram.

‘And compensation or not – surrogacy is a totally selfless act and I don’t know ANY fellow surrogates who would do it solely for the money.

‘I truly just want to help a family member out. I am in no way carrying this baby for financial gain.

‘It actually bugs me so much how people assume compensation MUST be a motive for me – when that is so far from the truth.’
