A young singer’s video of her vocal solo has gone viral — but not for the reason she might have hoped.
Dajia Davis was singing a beautiful cover of the ballad Say You Won’t Let Go by James Arthur when her mother walked into the room and ruined the otherwise perfect take.
Not only did mom Tammy Davis walk right in front of the camera’s lens, but she also broke out into a dance, grooving and gyrating in a wholly inappropriate way given the tempo and emotion of the song.
Interrupted: Dajia Davis was home singing a cover of Say You Won’t Let Go by James Arthur when, all of a sudden her mother, entered the room and broke into a dance
As the clip begins, Dajia is giving a soulful rendition of the slow song while sitting at a table.
But after a few seconds, Tammy walks into the room, coming into view on camera. She casually looks into the lens — and then, instead of realizing she was interrupting a recording and walking away, she decides to do the unexpected.
Though Dajia ignores her mother walking into the room, she can’t ignore what she does next: Tammy begins dancing, gyrating and shaking her backside.
She purses her lips, throws up her hands, and wiggles her body, picking a style of dance that does not belong with the particular song — and is clearly meant as an attempt to be goofy and funny.
Dajia, unable to ignore her mother any longer, stops singing and begins laughing at her mom. However, her reaction is not without a bit of frustration.
‘Mamma, come on!’ she says. ‘Come on, I sounded good!’
Unfazed, her mom continues to dance and shake.
Heartfelt: The singer from Dallas, Texas was singing beautifully to the slow ballad until her mom completely cut her off and stole the show
The video of the mother-daughter duo from Dallas, Texas, was posted on Twitter on December 19.
Since then it has quickly gone viral, racking up over five million views on Twitter, more than 182,000 views on Facebook, and almost 25,000 YouTube views.
Dajia first posted the video to Twitter, writing, ‘Sis tryna make a singing video and look at my momma,’ which sent people into a frenzy of comments.
Many told Dajia not to worry and that no one missed how beautiful her voice sounded. Others raved about how funny Tammy is.
Viral: The video has taken over social media with over five million views on Twitter and counting
‘I’m sorry Dajia, but that was funny. Ya mama gets a point for that one,’ wrote one.
‘Dance girl. Break it down,’ said another. A third wrote: ‘Her mom the real MVP.’
Dajia was clearly a bit annoyed — writing, ‘She get on my nervesssss’ — but also seemed to have a sense of humor about the whole thing.
While some people were laughing, others shared sweet comments about the duo’s relationship with each other.
‘Not only are you blessed with a great voice, you’re also blessed with a great mom,’ wrote one. ‘This is the mother daughter relationship of my dreams,’ said another.
Regardless of Tammy’s ridiculous dance moves, many users were quick to point out how beautiful Dajia’s cover of the song was.
Commenting on her fabulous vocals, users shared sweet messages like, ‘I’m gonna need you to finish that cover because it was amazing so far’ and ‘beautiful voice and great technique by the way, sounded great.’
