A pregnant Missouri woman saved her two-year-old son when she pulled him from their SUV after it dived into a pond.
Heather Vaden, from Robertsville, Missouri, managed to save her family after plunging the vehicle in a pond along Calvey Creek Road on Wednesday morning.
‘I don’t really think of it as I’m a hero at all. I just did what I had to do to get him out,’ said Heather Vaden to KSDK.

Heather had swerved off the road to avoid hitting a dog when she crashed into the pond.
‘We went to a ditch and the ditch bounced us up, we ran into a fence, and I remember landing into the pond,’ the mother added.
Once hitting the water, Heather quickly unbuckled her seat belt and that of her son Bently, her two-year-old son.
‘I didn’t want him to be stuck if something were to go wrong,’ Heather said.

And while SUV violently filled with water, the mother searched for something to break the rear window with, having to ultimately settle with her feet

Heather added: ‘I just started kicking the window and it took about five kicks and we finally busted out.’

But at the same time, husband Josh Vaden saw the couple’s car in the pond and rushed to help out.
‘The pressure of the car sinking was pushing me up and I couldn’t get in,’ he said.
But discovering they weren’t inside, Josh soon learned that they were safe.

‘I’m just beyond grateful right now to have everyone with me my whole family,’ Josh added.
Focusing on the positives, Heather has new appreciation for the thankful holiday.
‘Every Thanksgiving we are going to be like ‘this is a miracle,’ she said.
The family was able to spend Thanksgiving with their family but Heather did suffer from a broken arm.
