Mom videos toddler escaping from her crib

Every parent knows that one day the walls of their child’s crib will be unable to confine them anymore.

However that day came a lot sooner than expected for one mother, who recently discovered that her two-year-old daughter has developed an uncanny ability to free herself from her crib with a remarkable amount of ease during the middle of the night.

Mother-of-one Emily Schuman, 34, the blogger behind popular website and lifestyle brand Cupcakes & Cashmere, took to Instagram on Thursday to share a hilarious clip of her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Slaon scaling the side of her crib and hopping out, with apparently no trouble at all.

Emily shared the clip as a throwback video, saying that Sloan had managed to slip out of the crib for the very first time just earlier this month, revealing that the youngster performed the sneaky act at around 2am, before repeating the trick several times over the following week.

‘[Throwback] to last week when Sloan expertly launched herself out of her crib for the first time (Paranormal Activity-style at 2:22am) with total ease,’ Emily wrote in the caption for the video.

The black-and-white clip, filmed on a nanny cam, sees Sloan leaping up off her belly in the bed, before nimbly stretching her left leg over the edge of the crib and slowly moving her hands into position to allow her to swing the other leg over.

Upon making her escape from the crib, Sloan then strolls over the to door, opens it, and wanders off into the night.

As Emily later revealed on her Instagram Story, it turns out the young adventurer was off on a visit to her parents’ room, where she happily roused them from their slumber in order to enjoy a nighttime catch-up.

Responding to a follower comment on the video, Emily even admitted that ‘hearing our door creak open was terrifying’.

In several clips posted on the social media app, Emily revealed that she and her husband Geoffrey Fuller had been missing out on hours of precious sleep thanks to their daughter’s late-night wanders, with the blogger turning to other parents to ask for advice on how to handle the situation.

According to Parents.com, most toddlers between 18 and 24 months of age are able to crawl out of their cribs. However, the site adds, if a child is comfortable in the crib and ‘not a climber’ it is perfectly fine to let the child continue to sleep there.

Many people in the comments joked that Emily and her husband better be ready to go ‘big girl bed’ shopping.

Indeed, shortly after the clip was filmed, the blogger revealed that the parents had taken some steps to ensure that their precious girl enjoyed a more comfortable night’s sleep, explaining that they had put a form of guard on their daughter’s door which prevents her from opening it fully.

They are also testing a form of ‘big girl bed’ by putting the mattress from Sloan’s crib on the floor, giving her more room to move around, and ensure that she feels less confined by having all four sides up around her.

Earlier this month, Emily revealed that her daughter has been experiencing sleep regression, which saw her waking up every hour during the night.

‘G and I are barely getting through the day, meanwhile this girl, who was happily chortling/singing/calling for us all night, woke up in the. best. mood. ever,’ she wrote, along with a photo of her adorable little girl.

Emily, who launched Cupcakes & Cashmere back in 2008,  welcomed her daughter Sloan with her husband Geoffrey Fuller in February 2015 and has regularly documented her journey in parenting for her fans.
