Concerned fans could be seen crowding around the boy who was clutching his head and clearly in pain.

Commentator Adam Gilchrist later confirmed Charlie was not seriously injured and was being treated with ice at the ground.

‘Young Charlie, a six-year-old who was cleaned up by that six we’ve just heard that he’s fine,’ said the former Test wicketkeeper and opening batsman.

‘He’s gone away and mum put a bit of ice on his injury and he’s ready to get back out here and watch the rest of the innings.’

Charlie is the second child to be hit by a six this month, with Women’s Big Bash League Star hitting a young fan in the head at North Sydney Oval on December 9.

ICC’s women’s cricketer Ellyse Perry was behind that ball – a huge six that bounced off a wooden chair after clearing the fence.

Perry made headlines on that occasion by immediately rushing to the boundary to check on the boy.

The Adelaide Strikers handed Sydney Thunder a heavy 53-run defeat during Friday night’s game, with Head making 36 off 29 balls to take his side to 163 for 6.
