Later that evening, Cameron also took to Instagram to personally congratulate his sister on her career milestone.

He shared a black-and-white photo of the siblings, writing in the caption: ‘There’s nothing I could say that articulates how proud I am of this one.’

Margot portrays disgraced former US figure skater Tonya Harding in the biopic, which she also produced alongside her husband Tom Ackerley.

Margot faces serious competition in the Best Actress category this year.

She will go up against Meryl Streep (The Post), Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) and Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) at the March 4th ceremony in Los Angeles.

Prior to the announcement, Margot said she would not be losing sleep over nominations and described her success in Hollywood as ‘too good to be true.’

‘I’m pretty jet-lagged, I don’t think I’ll be losing sleep,’ she told Channel Nine.

‘I definitely need a good night’s sleep. Everything is already too good to be true and I don’t want to count on anything like that happening.

She added: ‘It’s pretty nuts. Each year I’m like, “Wow, next year couldn’t be crazier than this year”. And then it gets crazier! I’m very lucky.’
