Moment NHL player makes sure young fan catches a hockey puck

  • A young girl hoped to get a puck souvenir from Washington Capitals match
  • Wingman Brett Connolly threw a puck over the barrier aiming for her but missed
  • He threw two more until she finally got the treasured keepsake
  • She jumped for joy and held to puck close to her chest after grabbing it

Snatching an errant puck from the air is always tough for hockey fans – especially if you’re only a few feet high.

But Washington Capitals’ Brett Connolly wasn’t about to let a young fan go home empty-handed from her team’s big playoff game.

During warm-up for the match against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday night the wingman pointed out the little girl and fetched her a puck.

The 25-year-old tossed the puck over the barrier, only for it to be caught by a man who handed it to a young boy standing next to her.

The young fan was crushed by missing out and her heartbreaking look sent Connolly straight back with another puck.

But again the souvenir was plucked from the air by the same man and handed to a boy on the other side of her.

Connolly wasn’t about to see her denied and bashed on the barrier directly in front of her to make his intended target obvious.

After fetching a third puck, he again knocked on the perspex before taking a few attempts to get the puck over the top. This time the man who caught it handed it straight to the little girl

Her treasured souvenir would hopefully dull the disappointment of Washington’s devastating 4-5 loss in game two of the playoff series.
