Shocking footage has captured the moment an apartment window was shattered during a storm, throwing shards of glass over a terrified family.

Brisbane father Lee Ross, 50, had only just arrived at his holiday unit in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on Saturday evening when a tile flew up and struck the window.

Mr Ross captured the moment glass was sent flying through the living room as he filmed the severe hail storm howling outside the window.

The footage was taken at 5.10pm - as the Sunshine Coast and its surrounding areas were battered by damaging winds which caused a severe weather warning

Luckily, no-one was seriously hurt in the scary incident other than some of the family suffering from a few cuts

The holidaymaker captured the moment glass was sent flying through the living room (right, his son immediately after being covered in glass) as he filmed the severe hail storm howling outside the window.

The footage was taken at 5.10pm – as the Sunshine Coast and its surrounding areas were battered by damaging winds which caused a severe weather warning.

Luckily, no-one was seriously hurt in the scary incident at the Maroochydoore apartment building, but Mr Ross said the breaking glass had their group running for the hallway.

‘I’d just arrived as I had driven through the storm from Brisbane to Maroochydore,’ Mr Ross told Daily Mail Australia.

‘It (the storm) was moving east and about 15 minutes later it swung back towards us.’

‘A large tile from a neighbouring apartment flew up in the storm and took out the window. My thirteen-year-old son and my wife were covered in glass.’

Footage of the shocking incident showed Mr Ross urging his family to get away from the windows as glass covered the couch and the living room floor.

Moments earlier the retail manager had filmed his wife and a family friend taking in the storm on the unit’s balcony.

Mr Ross revealed his family and their friends had since been relocated from the glass-strewn fourth floor unit by management to a different apartment.

‘Everyone is OK other than a few cuts and bruises – my son wants to go home though!’ he said.

A severe storm warning also put Gympie and Noosa Heads in the vicinity of the vicious storm shortly after 6pm.

More storms are expected head towards Brisbane on Sunday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
