What happens when the designer behind an ultra-glam, ultra-feminine couture house teams up with a brand known primarily for heavy coats that are favored by rich skiers?
You get puffer coat gowns.
This season, high-end sportswear brand Moncler teamed up with Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli on a capsule collection packed with bold, floor-length puffers that seriously blur the line between eveningwear and outerwear.

For Fall 2018, Moncler collaborated with several high-end designers as part of an innovative brand relaunch.
The Moncler 1 Pierpaolo Piccioli, a collaboration with Valentino’s creative director, made its runway debut back in February — and fashion-conscious social media users started to buzz.
‘This post about puffer coat “gowns” is all the proof I need to know we are in the f***ing twilight zone,’ wrote one.
The gowns come in white, black, blue, green, purple, and several other colors.
Some are technically still marketed is as jackets, and have long sleeves, hoods, and hems that go all the way to the floor.The shape of the coats also drives home the ballgown feel, though, since the silhouette bells out.
Others are cinched at the middle and have no sleeves.
Twitter users are finding the design quite strange, and some are surprised to find them in their targeted ads
Social media users first started buzzing when the collection debuted in February
So expensive! Now that they’re on sale, many find the price truly outrageous
The consensus seems to be that they’re pretty ridiculous and fashion has gone too far

Now, the pieces from the collection are in stores, and the outrageous price tags are raising even more eyebrows.
On the Moncler website, the brand says the Isadora is a ‘perfect harmony of sportswear and Haute couture,’ and lists the price as $3,565
‘Wow I hate rich people. This weird puffer dress costs $2700,’ wrote one Twitter user.
‘What I’m wearing on my next formal hiking trip,’ joked another.
‘When I get rich first thing I’m doing is buying myself and my crew the Moncler floor length puffer jackets,’ wrote yet another.
One Twitter user who stumbled on upon a picture of the white one quipped, ‘Found my DREAM wedding dress.’
Some found it quite funny when the item turned up in their targeted ads.

‘I love that this Puffer gown wearing snow queen with a crown and lily garland is what @instagram sees me as. This is so much better than the algorithm that thought I was a hairy, metro-sexual dude who wore pleated pants,’ wrote another.
Interestingly, though, not everyone is flat-out mocking it.
‘I get so cold while I work so maybe Moncler’s gigantic puffer gowns are the solution? Something tells me they’re out of my price range though,’ wrote one.
‘My cold a** wants a moncler dress,’ another chimed in.
Said a third: ‘Think I may need one of these for next winter. The Moncler puffer gown. I mean, that’s head to toe protection from the polar vortex kind of warmth.’
