More people using gym to date than Tinder and Bumble

In the past, bench pressing a personal best or running that extra couple of miles on the treadmill was about as exciting as it got for most gym goers.

But as it turns out, getting sweaty could actually do a whole lot more to get the blood pumping than a simple round of cardio, because the gym has now been revealed as one of the places that people are most likely to meet their significant other.

In a new survey conducted by MyProtein, it was revealed that over 85 per cent of people admit to feeling flattered by romantic attention at the gym, which could well account for the fact that the fitness-focused location is responsible for more romances than actual dating apps.

And now the gym is even more successful than dating apps, boasting a 27 per cent success rate while apps only account for 20 per cent of committed relationships in the US.

Taking a more subtle approach has been deemed the most successful way to score a date, with over half of those surveyed sharing that the best way to woo is by simply smiling and making conversation.

While eight per cent have admitted to joining the same classes as their crush to bump into the naturally.

MyProtein surveyed 2,365 people across the US and participants were aged from 17 to 70.

Those aged 36 to 40 are the most lucky in love at the gym with 43 per cent of participants in this age group revealing they like to flirt and over a third (38 per cent) sharing that they’ve tried to flirt while working out.

While in Texas, the biggest flirts were the over fifties, with over half of those aged fifty or over admitting they like to flirt at the gym.

The least popular flirting method? Openly staring at prospective partners, no matter how skilled their form is.

And there’s nothing subtle about posing in front of the mirror either with 18 per cent of people surveyed admitting showing off is their biggest turn off.

The survey also uncovered the sexiest states with Kansas and Colorado coming out on top as the hottest gym spots in the country.

But flirting techniques differed greatly from place to place.

In Ohio, complimenting gym gear was the most popular way to flirt with a fellow gym goer, while in Nevada, 29 per cent of people think a ‘cheesy workout related pick up line’ will put them on the fast track to success.

In Oregon, 75 per cent of those surveyed shared that ‘making friends in common’ was the best way to flirt.
