Mother, 29, lost all of her baby weight by eating dessert

‘I’m allowed to eat chocolate, ice cream, pasta and fizzy drinks’: Mother, 29, who ate dessert and still lost her baby weight reveals the exact meal plan she followed for success

  • Maggie Chretien, who runs blog called The Peninsula Mumma, wanted a change
  • The 29-year-old from Melbourne gained 20kg during her pregnancy
  • She joined Equalution three months after giving birth to her son, Jagger
  • Now she’s lost 8kg and gets to eat ice cream, apple pies and beef burrito bowls

Maggie Chretien gained 20kg when she was pregnant with her son Jagger – and was in no rush to ‘bounce back’ after birth.

But three-and-a-half months after welcoming her son, the 29-year-old from Melbourne noticed one of her friends was eating ice cream every night while stilling managing to lose weight.

Intrigued, and still with a little baby weight to lose, Maggie signed herself and her husband up for Equalution.

‘Three months post partum I weighed 63kg. Now I am 55kg and I’ve never felt this lean before,’ she told FEMAIL.

Realising that she wasn’t eating enough, Maggie said she would often forget to schedule in a mealtime and would just reach for something sugary.

This was making it difficult to maintain the body shape she wanted.

But with her own personalised meal plan and menu from the weight loss company,  she can enjoy everything in moderation – without the guilt attached.

What does she eat each day?

Breakfast: A smoothie with strawberry Nesquik and fruit

Snacks: Hot chocolate, yoghurt and a toasted ham and cheese sandwich

Lunch: Mediterranean salad with feta, dressing and semi-dried tomatoes

Dinner: Beef burrito bowl

‘It’s all about knowing which foods fuels your body,’ she said.

‘I’ve never eaten so much on a “diet” before and been allowed (even encouraged) to eat chocolate, ice cream, pasta and fizzy drinks all in one day.’

On an average day she will have a smoothie breakfast containing strawberry Nesquik and fruit.

‘I have a one-year-old running around so I need something quick, easy and always delicious,’ she said.

'I've never felt happier. My mind is blown with how little I really understood about food. It's like my mind, body and soul are now all connected and it's amazing,' she said

Snacks for the week include hot chocolate, yoghurt and a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, which can be chosen at liberty over the seven days.

Lunch is a Mediterranean salad with feta, dressing and semi-dried tomatoes.

Meanwhile dinner is a personal favourite of Maggie’s: a beef burrito bowl.

And not one to forget her daily dessert allowance, she opts for an apple pie with ice cream.

How does Equalution work?

Common sense and bio-individuality – the idea that everybody is unique – is at the core of Equalution’s revolutionary approach, with clients receiving personalised meal plans based on their food preferences and overall calorie, protein, carbohydrate and fat intake goals.

Founded by award-winning fitness entrepreneurs Jade Spooner and Amal Wakim, the tech-based wellness company was dubbed ‘Australia’s Best Start Up’ in 2018 and is now a multimillion dollar, globally-recognised brand.

‘I’ve never felt happier. My mind is blown with how little I really understood about food. It’s like my mind, body and soul are now all connected and it’s amazing,’ she said.

Alongside the diet, Maggie has been attending gym classes to keep her body toned and strong.

‘I consistently go to the gym about 3-5 sessions a week. My sessions include heavy weights training, aerobic training and Pilates,’ she said.

After six months on the program, Maggie lost 8kg and 23cm from her body. She encourages other new mothers not to forget about themselves in the process of becoming a parent and that ‘it’s not selfish to work on yourself’.
