Mother breaks down at funeral of her five-year-old son who was ‘stabbed to death by his father’

The mother of a five-year-boy who was allegedly murdered by his father has broken down in tears as she arrived at his funeral service.

The child, who was found with horrific stab wounds at the family home in Carlingford in Sydney’s north-west two weeks ago, was farewelled by hundreds of mourners at Macquarie Park Crematorium on Wednesday.

The heartbroken mother shared a long and tearful embrace with a family member outside the Magnolia Chapel, before sharing a silent prayer with a Buddhist monk.

Mourners said goodbyes before the casket was closed, and a bouquet of flowers placed on the boy’s chest and on top of coffin. 

On the five-year-old’s pearl white casket were logos of European motor brands, including Audi, Mercedes and BMW.

‘Words cannot express our gratitude. Your kindness and comfort are deeply appreciated,’ the funeral handout read.

‘Thank you for attending and sharing in our love for [the boy].’

Floral tributes were laid as Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Wonderful World echoed through the chapel.

Charlie Puth’s ‘See You Again’ and John Legend’s ‘One Call Away’ were played during a visual tribute.

The Christian service held afterwards was packed to capacity, with mourners filling every seat in the hall.

The casket for the latter service was closed after mourners entering the building for the Christian ceremony filed in to pay their respects.

Reverend Ken Fischer told mourners the ceremony was a ‘celebration of [the boy’s] life’.

He also spoke of the father’s mental health battles in the lead up to the tragedy, before the boy’s grandmother recited a song the pair would sing together. 

A photo of the 36-year-old father, who can’t be identified for legal reasons, was displayed on the back of the funeral handout.

He was charged with the murder of his son at a following the tragic incident on June 8.

Moments after the alleged attack, the child’s grandmother found him lying in his bed, his body covered in stab wounds.

The 60-year-old rushed the boy 400 metres away from the home before calling Triple Zero but despite her heroic efforts, he died in hospital.

Neighbours told Daily Mail Australia the dad ‘cared for that boy very much’, while witnesses described the grandmother’s ‘brave’ attempt to get her beloved relative to safety.

Another neighbour, Hank, said: ‘He was a very sweet little boy … the relationship between the father and son was a doting relationship. ‘[He] ran to his father when he wanted help’.

The 36-year-old father was denied bail and is expected to appear next in court on July 30.
