The mother of a Melbourne teenager who hospitalised a fellow student following a brutal schoolyard brawl said her daughter was acting in self defense.
Horrific footage of the vicious fight at St Helena’s Secondary College in Eltham North on Wednesday, obtained by Herald Sun, shows two Year 9 girls ferociously attacking each other.
One of the female students was taken to Austin Hospital after appearing to pass out from being held in a ‘choke hold’ – a move the mother of the perpetrator said was completely necessary.

She said her daughter had recently moved schools due to being bullied, and ‘connections’ made via social media had made her a target at her new school as well.
‘It’s not quite as clear cut as what the video shows,’ she told 3AW.
‘There’s a king punch to the back of the head, that’s not even on the video, from the one that got taken away in the ambulance.’
She said her daughter, who has been suspended for five days, was also ‘very bruised and sore’ from injuries inflicted by her opponent.
‘As a parent I’m disgusted, I’m appalled. I’m just horrified to watch that.’

‘If you watch the video…they’re actually filming it for the bullies at the other school.’
‘She was not the aggressor, she was defending herself.’
The mother wanted to distinguish rumours suggesting her daughter had been expelled from her previous school, saying the matter had been ‘sensationalised’.
‘That video is only partial video, it doesn’t show the lead-up during the day, it doesn’t show what happened on Monday.’
‘There’s a lot more facts and a lot more information that people are not aware of.’
Acting principal Anesti Anestis told Herald Sun there was ‘no place’ for such incidents at the school.

‘It is disappointing and does not reflect the behaviour of the overwhelming majority of our students,’ he said.
He said neither student was seriously injured in the melee, although one was taken to hospital as a ‘precautionary measure and had since been released’.
Both police and ambulance officers were called to the school, and arrived shortly after the fight broke out about 1.30pm.
A Victoria Police spokesman said the incident was being investigated.
The concerned parent revealed her daughter had recently began training in martial arts.
