Mother of autistic girl is upset over neighbors’ threatening note

A mother has been left heartbroken after her neighbors threatened to have her evicted over her autistic daughters ‘outbursts’ in a cruel letter.

The missive, signed by residents of a condominium in Bal Harbour, Florida, threatens legal action to remove the family from their apartment if they did not leave on their own accord.

In the letter, which was left on the family’s front door and is dated April 17, an anonymous sender wrote: ‘Please be advised—the 300 residents of this building will not compromise their quality of life any longer.

Missive: A mother in Bal Harbour, Florida, has been left heartbroken after her neighbors threatened to have her evicted over her autistic daughters ‘outbursts’ in a cruel letter

‘You have a daughter with major issues. Your daughter cannot be socialized with others.

‘Her lack of impulse control, her screaming and outbursts—are not acceptable to the residents in this building.

‘We have sought legal counsel.

‘The choice is yours. Either you move out of the building on your own volition, or the residents of this building will take action and you will be forced to move.’

The anonymous note then slams the parents for letting their daughter use the building’s swimming pool, adding: ‘People cannot and do not wish to swim in the pool during the four hours she stands and screams in the pool—incessantly, every afternoon and night.’

Whoever wrote the letter described the girl, 16-year-old Batsheva, as ‘large framed [sic] and hefty’.

‘She jumps up and down and disturbs all of the neighboring residents beginning at 5:30 AM every day,’ that person added before renewing their threats towards Batsheva’s parents.

‘YOU DISREGARD and DISRESPECT all of the other residents in this building; therefore, we will do EVERYTHING to take action.

‘The right thing to do would be to take your daughter to a facility that can accommodate disabled people like herself, where you would not be infringing upon the quality of life of others—who worked hard their whole lives—to live and enjoy the peace and quiet of this condo building.’

The shocking note ends with the sender telling Batsheva’s family: ‘We are not responsible for your daughter’s diagnosis.

‘And you have no right to burden us with her diagnosis.

‘We urge you to do the right thing and find another living situation as soon as possible.’

As for the signature, it indicates ‘the Plaza of Bal Harbour Residents’, referring to a condo building close to Miami.

The letter appeared on social media after another mother, who said her child goes to the same school as Batsheva, shared it publicly and voiced her outrage.

Batsheva has severe autism and has the same IQ as a four-year-old, her family told NBC Miami. It was her father who found the note on the family’s apartment door.

‘Whoever wrote this letter is heartless,’ Batsheva’s mother, Leah Solomon, told the network. ‘It’s not a human being, it’s an animal. Because my daughter, she is special. She’s an angel. She doesn’t understand hate, or lying, or pretending. She’s pure.’

The building’s manager has condemned the letter, calling it ‘disturbing’, and saying it wasn’t sent by her office nor the condominium’s board.

Building officials now believe they have identified the tenant who wrote the letter, and told NBC Miami it wasn’t written by anyone in an official capacity, including any of the condo’s owners.

Batsheva’s family, meanwhile, said the missive left them feeling strongly unwelcome in their own building, where they have lived for two years.

‘It makes me angry,’ Solomon told NBC Miami of the letter. ‘It breaks my heart because my daughter cannot defend herself.’

The Solomons have hired a lawyer and hope to move to a different home in the future.
