Mother of the bride slammed by angry daughter for choosing a white floral outfit for her wedding

A woman has asked for advice after her mother bought a white floral outfit for her wedding.

The bride-to-be said she faced a ‘dilemma’ as her mother ‘wants to wear the outfit to my wedding, but I don’t know if it’s too bridal’.

Posting on Reddit, the woman uploaded a snap of the two-piece outfit, which features a black and pink floral design on both the skirt and the top and a sleeveless peplum shape.

‘I’m really trying to be pretty laid back about my wedding, so I’m trying to see if there is any way this does not look too white or bridal,’ she said.

The woman then asked the commenters for their thoughts on the design.

People were quick to voice an opinion on the outfit, with some deeming it ‘inappropriate’ and others saying it was ‘too bridal by 30 per cent’.

‘That would be too bridal for me,’ one person posted.

‘It’s a mixture of the volume of white and the taffeta layer which takes it into the bridal territory.

‘Someone posted earlier a white wrap dress which was completely covered in a floral pattern and that seemed fine to me because there wasn’t the same overwhelming white effect.’

Another said: ‘I could imagine some brides wearing something like this, so to me it is too bridal. It’s mostly white with just a few coloured areas, plus the layers of material in the skirt give it quite a formal and bridal effect.’

A third bride said they actually tried the dress on in a store, and had contemplated it as their second wedding dress.

Some provided helpful advice, asking what her dress looked like and saying if it was similar to the mother's then it should be got rid of (pictured: one of the comments)

Another said they are wearing the skirt to their own bridal shower and perhaps the top with a different skirt would be okay (pictured: one of the comments)

Not all were firmly in the ‘too bridal’ camp, however.

One person said ‘I don’t think it’s very bridal, other than being white. In fact, I think it’s very mother-y?? If it were my mum, it wouldn’t bother me. If it does bother you that ‘s your right though!’

A second said it isn’t ‘bridal in my opinion and I wouldn’t care at all if my mum wanted to wear this to my wedding’.

This isn’t the first time the mother of the bride or groom has sparked debate over her choice of outfit.

Just last month, a mother-in-law was heavily criticised for wearing a bridal-style dress to her son’s wedding, with people calling it a ‘murderous’ offence.

The woman, who was kept anonymous online, shocked her wedding party in a floor length lace frock that looked almost identical to the bride’s dress.

A ‘distant member of the family’ shared an image of the bride and mother-in-law together to a wedding shaming group on Facebook, saying they even had the same sleeves.

‘I wouldn’t have any pictures with her or any taken of her. That’s so disrespectful to the bride and groom,’ one person said.

‘Also yes, it’s ice blue, but it’s still horribly wrong for a mother-in-law to wear at the wedding. It still looks like a bridal gown. My MIL wore ice blue too but it was clearly not a bridal gown,’ another said.
