A mother-of-two has revealed how she cut her family’s grocery bill by $1,000 a month using a very savvy method.
Becky Guiles, from Syracuse, New York, took to TikTok to share her ‘B.O.R.E.S’ strategy with her followers.
The money-saving expert, who is known as the Freebie Lady on social media, explained that the five key steps to cutting down food bills are to budget, organize, reuse, eliminate and simplify.
The clip is the latest in a long-line of tips and tricks that the 42-year-old has shared.

In the clip, uploaded to TikTok earlier this month, Becky begins: ‘This is how to stop spending so much money at the grocery store.
‘Do I know what I’m talking about? We were spending $1,400 a month on groceries and I have cut that down to $400 a month.
‘I recommend that people use what I call the B.O.R.E.S system.’
Elaborating on the method, the savvy saver, who has more than 513,000 followers, explains: ‘The B stands for budget.
‘Budget $100 per person in your family per month.
‘If you have food allergies or you have really hungry teenagers you might need to increase that by like $50 or so.
‘O stands for Organize. Every time you are not organized its going to cost you more money.
‘Go through your kitchen and get rid of all those things that are expired or that you are just never going to eat.
‘That will give you a clean plate – a clean palette – for everything I’m going to teach you next.
‘R is for Reuse. I know that sounds kind of weird but here’s some ways you can reuse some stuff.’
She then lists out some helpful advice for repurposing leftover such as chip crumbs, stale bread, vegetable scraps and even the tops of strawberries.
But Becky’s advice does not stop there.
The mother-of-two continues: ‘E is for Eliminate. Eliminate waste by freezing more things… know how to store your fruit and vegetables in a way that makes them last longer.
‘S is for simplify. Simplify the way you do meals. Simplify meal planning. Simplify everything. Simplify your ingredients.
‘One of the huge ways I have simplified meal planning is that every single day of the week has a theme to it.’

Before making the lifestyle swap, Becky (pictured with husband Jay) faced $35,000 worth of debt with only one source of income
She then runs through her meal planning for the week including ‘Mexican Mondays’ and frittatas on Tuesdays before concluding: ‘I promise if you do all of those things in B.O.R.E.S, you will be able to cut your grocery bill down significantly.’
Becky has previously revealed that she quit her job a few years ago to take care of her two young kids.
But she and husband Jay soon found themselves in $35,000 worth of debt with only one source of income.
After struggling to make ends meet for some time, Becky decided to research ways in which she could save money – and she was able to cut their yearly spending by $30,000.
It meant that the couple were then able to pay off their debt in less than eight months.
The situation inspired the keen saver to share her tips with others on everything from groceries to electric and gas bills.
