A young mother who was left by her long-term partner after giving birth to their premature baby boy has bounced back from her terrible ordeal.

Lisa Burling, from Sydney, was left by her partner, who broke up with her over the phone, just two days after she gave birth to their premature baby.

Unemployed and with two sons, who were under three-years-old, to raise by herself she has said it was like a bomb had ‘dropped.’

The mother-of-two used to have it all, with a fulfilling career, a little boy and a supportive partner, but it all went out the window when her significant other broke the news, two days after the birth of their premature baby, she wrote for Kidspot.

Suddenly a single mother, Lisa had to fight her way back and dream ‘little dreams’ to get her life back on track.

Already mother to one son Luca, Lisa went through emergency labour with her second son, Nate, when he was just 32 weeks.

After giving birth to Nate, Lisa noticed she had a missed call from her partner. But she said she’ll never forget the moment she called back.

‘He was out – he was leaving me. It wasn’t working, he wasn’t happy and that was it. Done and dusted,’ she wrote.

‘I hung up, took a deep breath and I sobbed on the floor of a cold, impersonal hospital room for what was probably five minutes, but seemed to be hours.’

The young mother said it felt like the universe was playing a joke on her.  She said she hoped to wake up and realise it had just been ‘a big, fat, ugly’ dream.

Lisa decided to turn her life around and had to accept the fact that she was indeed a employment single mother of two, something she thought would never happen to her.

Slowly but surely, Lisa rebuilt her life. Instead of big dreams she could not have achieved, Lisa focus on ‘little dreams,’ she knew she could make come true.

The woman, who is now a successful entrepreneur, said her ability to dream saved her and her boys from being ever worse off than they initially were.

In just three years, Lisa has turned her life around and is now a successful businesswoman.

‘Fast forward to today, and I am an entrepreneur with an award-winning PR consultancy, LBPR. I’ve been awarded as a businesswoman in my own right and am a proud ambassador for the AusMumpreneur Network and Inspiring Rare Birds,’ she wrote.

Lisa had previously moved to London at age 23, and while she loved her UK life, she decided to move back to her country of origin to spend some more quality time with her family and friends when she reached 33.

There, she started working as a PR in Sydney and rekindled an old romance with who would become the father of her children.

Lisa said she thought she would spend of her life with her then partner. While she had doubts, she let him make decisions for the both of them and the pair moved to a smaller, quieter town two hours away from Sydney.

The mother-of-two said she felt this was what she thought she ought to be doing in her early thirties, but felt ‘unfulfilled’ as a stay-at-homer mother.

Even though she was ‘a bit bored,’ Lisa said she did not want to break up her family. But all changed when Nate was born andher partner left her.

Lisa wrote Dream a Little dream, which retraces her story as a single-mother. and gives tips on how to bounce back.
