She continued: ‘Please settle an argument for me. Are headbands on baby girls chavvy? DH was outraged I put one on DD and said they’re chavvy. I don’t think they are!’.
A Mumsnet user has sparked a debate online after asking fellow parents whether headbands on a baby look ‘chavvy’
And she was soon inundated with comments from parents mainly slamming the trend, with some even branding it a ‘strangulation hazard’.
‘I don’t personally like them as I think they are tacky! I would never put such a thing on my dd (darling daughter)’, one mother wrote, with another adding: ‘I agree with your husband. They look very tacky indeed.’
One woman questioned whether she would appreciate being forced into wearing a headband, writing: ‘I don’t like them because if I wore one it would drive me mad and they look painful and tight when the baby has no hair.’

She was soon inundated with replies, with many expressing their distaste at the trend, with several mother’s criticising her for treating the baby as an accessory
Others accused the mother of treating her child like an accessory, writing: ‘It’s awful. Please don’t do this to her, she’s not a Yorkshire Terrier. And if I were her I’d find it really irritating.
Some even warned against the trend being a potential hazard, with one stating: ‘Yes, chavvy and dangerous. If they slip down over a small baby’s face they can suffocate.’
‘Choosing to put a strangulation risk on your child to prove they are female is stupid,’ one angry parent added.
‘Your baby, your call’: Not everybody was against the trend, with some reassuring the mother that it is her decision
But not everybody was against the trend, with some reassuring the mother that it is her decision.
‘Yes. They can be cute provided the baby actually has some hair though,’ one parent wrote.
Another admitted she used them on her own children, adding: ‘I think it’s cute. My daughters used to wear them, maybe with not quite such a big bow, but I think it’s pretty. Your baby, your call. ‘
And one even poked fun at the term ‘chavvy’, encouraging her mother to embrace the ‘tackinesss’.
‘I think they are chavvy… BUT personally I love chavvy, and if I have a girl next time they will be resplendent in a tutu and headband from the second they are born. Your DD (dear daughter) is scrumptious and the headband is mega chavvy cuteness overload,’ she concluded.
