Mother shares photo of herself and her daughter kissing

These days, everyone seems to be an expert when it comes to raising children – and one cause of debate is the question of whether you should kiss your children on the lips.

Victoria Beckham sparked controversy when she shared a picture of herself kissing her five-year-old daughter, Harper, on Instagram and now an Australian mother and blogger has shared a similar photo.

Mother-of-four, Stevie Niki, from NSW, shared an innocent picture of her and her daughter, 7, being affectionate online.

‘One of my first thoughts were when contemplating sharing this beautiful photo of my daughter and I, was how there was a big hoo haa over a celebrity who shared a photo of them kissing their child on their lips,’ Stevie said in the photo’s caption.

‘How sad is that that I even entertained that thought? That, that even happened. That I had to question posting this and that someone was shamed for doing the same thing?’ she continued.

These days parents are often vilified online when they share how they parent their children as everyone has their own opinions which is something Stevie, who blogs at My Tribe of Six, is all too familiar with.

‘It’s crazy what we go through as parents, the shaming… the shaming from fellow parents,’ Stevie said.

‘We are honestly damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

‘If you cant even kiss your own child or show them affection without being slammed, then we are living in a sad world.’

Victoria Beckham didn’t mean to start this debate when she shared her innocent picture and Stevie doesn’t want to debate about it either.

‘I have to seriously question why or what has jaded another’s mind into thinking kissing your own child is seen as inappropriate,’ she said.

‘Now I’m annoyed that this photo has this caption, because it shouldn’t.

‘Anyway, I love her stinkin’ guts – my little wild child.. and that’s the only caption this photo needed.’

Victoria wasn’t the only celebrity to receive backlash for sharing such a picture, with her husband David Beckham and actor Hilary Duff also facing the same treatment.

Luckily Stevie’s post has received only support from her followers.

‘People commenting on lip kisses with your children saying it’s a bad thing? Says more about their mind set then anything else,’ one person said.

Another mother commented: ‘Aw I love this post! I’ve had the exact feelings as well and wonder why I even question it if my son kisses me in front of people.

‘I had a friend say it was a bit weird to do, she doesn’t have children but I couldn’t believe I got shunned a bit for being affectionate to my little man, he kisses all the time though its the sweetest thing.’
