Disturbing footage has emerged showing the level of violence meted out by school bullies in an attack which left a 13-year-old girl with clumps of hair missing.
Claire Walton says the video of her daughter being attacked outside Blessed Edward Jones high school in Rhyl, North Wales, shows just how savage youth violence has become.
The video was filmed by a friend of the bully, who posted it in on social network Snapchat to allow other pupils to see it.
Ms Walton, who has asked for her daughter not to be named, says too little is being done to protect youngsters.
A mother has released a shocking video which was shared online after her daughter was attacked outside her school
The mother-of-four said she went into the school before the attack took place to complain about the bullying.
She says her daughter had already had food and cups thrown at her during lunchtime and glitter poured on her during textiles lessons.
Ms Walton added: ‘My daughter and her friend have been put in isolation to keep her away from this bully instead of the bully being removed from the classroom, which I think is wrong.
‘The school reassured me that they would keep an eye on her and send an email out to all the teachers so they were aware.
‘But during the day, my daughter got wind that she was going to get ‘jumped’ after school and asked if she could leave ten minutes early, but was told no.
‘Sure enough, the girl was waiting for her outside and carried out the attack.’
The incident happened after the 13-year-old left Blessed Edward Jones high school in Rhyl
After viewing the footage, she said: ‘It breaks my heart to see someone doing that to my child and it makes me sick to think she asked for help and no one listened to her.
‘My daughter has been left with a lump on her head and clumps of her hair have fallen out as she’s brushed it.’
The school said in a statement: ‘As a Catholic community, Blessed Edward Jones High School was saddened to witness the behaviour of one of our family last Friday.
‘I would like to assure all pupils, parents and carers that we take such incidents very seriously.
‘We respect and value every member of our community, recognising the need for the values of kindness and compassion in school life.
‘We will continue to work tirelessly to provide a safe and secure school and set high standards in terms of behaviour towards each other, even at times of difficulty.
‘I can assure everybody associated with our school that such behaviour will not be tolerated and the matters surrounding the incident will be investigated fully and fairly.’
Police are also investigating and are appealing for witnesses.
