Motorcycle drag racer dies in freak accident on the track – investigation is launched to find out what happened

A motorcyclist has died after he crashed during a drag race meeting in Victoria.

The 48-year-old man was participating in the ‘Test n Tune’ event at Heathcote Park Raceway near Bendigo on Sunday, the International Hot Rod Association Australia (IHRA) confirmed. 

In a statement about 1.30pm on Sunday the IHRA ‘offered its deepest condolences to the family’ and said the remainder of the race meet would be cancelled and the facility closed to the public.

Heathcote Park Raceway owner Lance Warren said the racing community was in shock.

‘As a drag racing family we are extremely saddened by what has happened, and ask that everyone be respectful and understanding with our decision to cancel todays Test & Tune,’ he said.

‘The welfare of the racer’s family is our priority, and we give our most sincere condolences to them during this time.’

Worksafe and police are investigating and a report will be prepared for the Cornor.
