Paul Pogba will start for Manchester United against CSKA Moscow as Jose Mourinho refused to reveal whether he has appealed a three-match ban.

Pogba was given a straight red card for stamping on Hector Bellerin late on during the victory at Arsenal on Saturday evening.

The central midfielder was left disappointed by the decision, maintaining that it was completely accidental given Bellerin’s unusual body position in trying to win the ball.

United had until 1pm on Monday afternoon to decide whether to appeal and were aware that an additional match could be added if the Football Association deemed it frivolous. Mourinho would not divulge what course of action United had taken.

‘Paul’s very happy to play tomorrow. The next match is the match that matters,’ Mourinho said. ‘He’s a bit tired because it was a huge match. He will try to keep his momentum because since he’s been back from injury he’s been phenomenal.’

Pogba’s inclusion for the Champions League clash could suggest United have accepted the suspension. If that is the case he will miss games with City, Bournemouth and West Brom before the festive period.
