Movie style footage of gang shooting involving four men

Dramatic movie-style CCTV shows a gang of thugs carrying out a shooting in broad daylight before being chased across a city by police cars and a helicopter.

The crystal-clear footage shows officers trying to track down the four thugs when a 27-year-old man was shot and a second man attacked after a fight broke out.

Violence erupted following an attempted robbery in the Jewellery Quarter, in Birmingham, on May 7 this year.

Heart-pounding footage shows Tyann McCooty, 21, clutching a gun in his hand following the shooting, which took place when a fight broke out during the attempted robbery.

Police dashcam then captures him attempting to flee the scene with his three accomplices.

One of the victims is then seen stopping a marked police car after he was shot in the elbow. He survived the wound.

The officers are then seen chasing down the gang’s white BMW, and after a short pursuit two of the passengers stopped and attempted to run away on foot.

The driver, Damel Lebert, 20, was arrested by officers at the scene, and a police helicopter was dispatched to chase down McCooty, who shouted ‘look at the strength’ as officers arrested him.

Police discovered a discarded bag containing two rounds of ammunition, as well as a revolver which had been discarded in a bin.

Reshea Bell, 21, of Hockley, Birmingham, was sentenced to three years and eight months after being found guilty of affray and possession of class with intent to supply class A drugs, and burglary and driving offences from a separate matter.

Detective Constable Hugh Nelson, of West Midlands Police, said: ‘It appears that the initial meeting between the parties was one of chance after which the intention to rob jewellery from one victim was formed.

‘Sadly it resulted in a man being shot in broad daylight on a busy street in the city centre.

‘McCooty was carrying a firearm, passed to him by Lynvest, which McCooty then discharged while attempt to commit the robbery.

‘He then threw the gun away and tried to hide from officers.

‘We were able to piece together what happened by trawling hours of CCTV and also recovered the weapon.

‘A video of his arrest later emerged on YouTube which McCooty hoped would add to notoriety.

‘Ironically, looking at the strength of all the evidence gathered and presented, four men involved in gun crime have now been convicted and taken off the streets.

‘I hope this provides some comfort to their victims and reassures people that we are committed to tackling gun crime in the city.’
